What is PrEP?

PrEP is a medication that can be taken to prevent contracting HIV. It’s over 92% effective in preventing HIV when taken every day and can be used by anyone who is having sex, regardless of their sexual identity or orientation. It can also be used by people who inject drugs and pregnant women. PrEP’s sole purpose is to prevent HIV. It cannot cure HIV, protect you from contracting other sexually transmitted infections (STIs), or prevent pregnancy.

Are you a good candidate for PrEP?

If you’ve answered “yes” to any of the questions below, you might be a good candidate for taking PrEP to prevent contracting HIV.

  • Are you sexually active?
  • Have you ever had sex without a condom?
  • Have you or your partner(s) had an STI in the past year?
  • Do you participate in non-vaginal intercourse?
  • Are you in a relationship with an HIV+ partner?
