Get Care to Give Care: Meet Chase and Heather Kimball

For nearly 33 years, Mary’s Center has made healthcare more accessible for thousands of individuals with limited resources throughout the DC metropolitan area. Mary’s Center offers care to all who walk through our doors, regardless of ability to pay. In 2020, we provided over $7.7 million in free care, building pathways to good health, economic stability, and educational success even during one of the most challenging years in recent memory.

At the core of our efforts is our network of supporters – not only generous donors but also community members who participate in our Get Care to Give Care program. When insured individuals choose Mary’s Center as their healthcare provider, they help defray the costs of providing free care to a fellow neighbor in need.

Supporting Mary’s Center through the Get Care to Give Care program is as simple as scheduling your first appointment. Just ask supporters like Heather and Chase Kimball!

Meet Heather and Chase.

Heather and Chase, who have lived in DC for about ten years, were familiar with Mary’s Center from walking and biking past the Adams Morgan location. “At the time, neither of us had primary care physicians and we were intrigued by Mary’s Center,” said Heather. They checked out Mary’s Center’s website to learn more and saw information about the Get Care to Give Care program. Chase walked into the clinic to ask how to participate, and he learned that all they needed to do was set up an appointment.

At first, Heather and Chase were hesitant. They did not want to take services away from others, especially the uninsured or those who cannot afford to pay for care. “We wanted to ensure that we weren’t displacing someone who could use that appointment,” said Heather and Chase. But the staff reassured them that utilizing Mary’s Center services with their private insurance was actually a positive thing that would help people.

Since becoming participants of Mary’s Center in 2016, the Kimballs have welcomed two precious boys. “We just loved both of the Mary’s Center midwives who cared for me during the prenatal period,” said Heather. “We felt really well cared for throughout both the pre-and postnatal time.”

Now their sons are also participants – which was important to the Kimballs. When making their home in DC, they wanted to be sure that their family felt connected and engaged in their community. “It’s important to us that we truly take part in our community, and for that to be our kids’ experience as well,” said Heather. “We choose to go to a place where people in our neighborhood are going. We don’t need to leave the city to get the care we need.”

“I recommend Mary’s Center to everyone as the best place in the city to get healthcare. The quality of healthcare is exceptional. And those who are insured and receive care are helping cover the costs of those who aren’t insured. At Mary’s Center we can keep our family healthy and make an impact on the community, just by showing up.” – Chase Kimball, Proud Mary’s Center Participant and Donor
