October 20, 2021 – Today, Mary’s Center announced funding from The Rita S. Metcalfe Foundation to help community members access their Child Tax Credit payments. October 12, 2021 – Today, Mary’s Center announced they have received a $125,000 Healthier Kids For Our Future® grant from the Cigna Foundation. This funding will provide high-quality, culturally competent nutrition counseling to 300 under-resourced caregivers and their at-risk children ages 0-17 in the State of Maryland. Read more.
September 23, 2021 – Today, Mary’s Center announced a grant from the Delta Dental Community Care Foundation to provide enhanced dental services to the greater Washington, DC community. The upgrades include new state-of-the-art equipment and replacements for aging dental equipment to provide high-quality, equitable care for all. Read more.

July 19, 2021 – Feed the Fridge, the innovative approach to battling food insecurity while helping the local economy in the Washington, D.C. region, will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony at Mary’s Center in Silver Spring (344 University Blvd. West) on July 21 at 1:30 PM, to officially open its latest fridge. June 28, 2021 – Today, Mary’s Center and Capital Area Food Bank announced the launch of the Healthy Mom, Healthy Baby pilot program. This supplemental food and nutrition education program, funded by UnitedHealthcare, aims to improve the overall health of Mary’s Center’s high-risk pregnant participants residing in Maryland. June 18, 2021 – The Washington Post announced that the Mary’s Center & Briya Public Charter School partnership has made the list of 2021 Top Workplaces in the Greater Washington, DC area. Mary’s Center President and CEO Maria Gomez was honored with the Large Workplace Leadership Award, and Mary’s Center and Briya in addition to receiving the Top Workplace award were also recognized with the national Top Workplaces Woman-Led Culture Excellence Award. June 10, 2021 – Today, Mayor Bowser joined Mary’s Center and UnitedHealthcare to celebrate and cut the ribbon on their new mobile vaccination pod which is located at the Mary’s Center Fort Totten Clinic in Ward 5. Read more.
June 3, 2021 – Today, Mary’s Center announced an $80,000 grant from TD Charitable Foundation, the charitable giving arm of TD Bank, America’s Most Convenient Bank, to expand its evidence-based Centering Pregnancy program. Over a two-year period, the program will engage 250 expecting mothers who have limited access to healthcare, transportation, and social support in an innovative group care model aimed at improving pregnancy outcomes. May 19, 2021 – UnitedHealthcare today announced a community-based initiative, Community Catalyst, that convenes a broad range of community stakeholders to identify and address specific health care needs of members of the community and residents of publicly assisted housing who are often difficult to reach and serve. April 1, 2021 – The American Cancer Society and Pfizer Global Medical Grants are collaborating and have awarded a new grant of $250,000 to Mary’s Center focused on addressing prostate cancer disparities impacting Black men in Washington, DC, and Prince George’s County, Maryland. Read more.
March 30, 2021 – Today, the US Second Gentleman and husband of Vice President Kamala Harris, Doug Emhoff, visited Mary’s Center to see first-hand the vaccination efforts of the organization that is helping eliminate Covid-19 in the DC metropolitan region. March 25, 2021 – Today, Mary’s Center President and CEO Maria Gomez, one of the founders of the organization, announced her departure after 33 years of service. Maria will leave by the end of 2021. Read more.
February 12, 2021 – Today, Mary’s Center announced the donation of 30 laptops by the Hispanic Heritage Foundation for inter-generational families in the Greater Washington Area. The donation is part of a national effort in partnership with NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises and Comcast for a total of 1,000 laptops distributed nationwide. Read more.
December 28, 2020 – Today, Mary’s Center will begin administering the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine. The Center is one of four community health centers in the District of Columbia that received the first shipment of vaccines and is authorized to provide it. Read more.
November 25, 2020 – The Hispanic Heritage Foundation (HHF) and Mary’s Center, through a partnership with Plantita Power, distributed growbags of produce plants including kale, chard and dill to immigrant and QTBIPOC (Queer, Trans, Black, Indigenous, People of Color) communities. Read more.
August 31, 2020 – Today, Mary’s Center announced their “LGBTQ Health Care Equality Leader” designation from the Human Rights Campaign Foundation (HRC). The designation was awarded in the 13th edition of HRC’s Healthcare Equality Index (HEI), released today. Read more.
July 13, 2020 – Mary’s Center announced today the reopening of the two health centers in the Adams Morgan and Fort Totten neighborhoods of Washington, DC that were temporarily closed since March due to the impact of COVID-19. Read more.
July 9, 2020 – Mary’s Center announced a partnership with five foundations to establish and administer the D.C. Child Care Reopening Fund to respond to child care providers’ urgent need of support as the District of Columbia and surrounding states begin to reopen. Read more.
July 9, 2020 – UnitedHealthcare is awarding $1 million in Empowering Health grants to eight community-based organizations in Maryland, including Mary’s Center, to expand access to care and address the social determinants of health for uninsured individuals and underserved communities. Read more.
June 16, 2020 – The Washington Post announced that the Mary’s Center & Briya Public Charter School partnership has made the list of 2020 Top Workplaces in the Greater Washington, DC area. This is the third time in 4 years that the partnership has received this recognition. Read more.
June 15, 2020 – Former civil rights litigator and policy advocate Todd A. Cox is the new Board Chair of Mary’s Center’s Board of Directors, taking the helm from renowned economist Dr. Stuart M. Butler, who served from 2018-2020. Read more.
May 26, 2020 – Mary’s Center announced an infusion of $50,000 in emergency grant funding from the medical aid organization Direct Relief, in partnership with the National Association of Community Health Centers (NACHC) to continue frontline response efforts serving the most under-resourced individuals and families in the region. May 6, 2020 – United Way of the National Capital Area (United Way NCA) continues to meet the demands of the community in the areas of access to food and basic needs and is now expanding support through its Emergency Assistance Fund to organizations in the areas of health and financial stability, including Mary’s Center. April 28, 2020 – In response to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic in the Greater Washington region, Mary’s Center will be able to conduct more testing and critical care at its clinics thanks to a grant from Bank of America, it was announced today. Read more.
Jan. 30, 2020 – Mary’s Center was announced as the recipient of a $450,000 grant from the Robert I. Schattner Foundation, a private charitable foundation established by dentist and inventor Dr. Robert I. Schattner in 1992. The grant will support Mary’s Center’s efforts to expand its service offering in Montgomery County, Maryland, in early 2020.
