
Fatima Zia, LMSW, MPP

Fatima Zia is a Pakistani-Afghan American who was born in NYC and raised in Maryland. Currently, she holds her MSW and MPP from the University of Maryland. She chose to pursue clinical social work and public policy in order to leverage the policymaking process to better support communities of color. Fatima is passionate about increasing access for marginalized groups via holistic and interdisciplinary care models. She enjoys working with adolescents and young adults. Fatima is especially focused on culturally sensitive care, trauma informed care, family systems theories, and religious/ethnic hyphenated identities. Her experiences have consisted of looking at the mental health impacts on historically marginalized communities, trauma and grief & loss work in public schools, evaluating county mental health programs, and supporting torture survivors seeking asylum in the U.S. (forced migration). In her free time she enjoys listening to music, exploring different coffee shops and restaurants, and spending time outdoors with loved ones.
