We Need Your Help to Stop the Spread

At Mary’s Center we are very concerned about the increase in COVID-19 infections in the DC region and across the country. 

We are counting on you to fully answer all screening questions we ask on the phone and at the door so that we can set you up with an appointment to best meet your needs and keep you, your family, and our staff as safe as possible. 

Here are answers to some frequently asked questions about our COVID-19 screening process. 

How can I tell the difference between symptoms of COVID-19 and symptoms of a cold, flu, or allergies? 

COVID-19 symptoms can vary widely and range from fever and cough to sore throat, headache, congestion, and more. It’s impossible to know what you have until you get tested, so you should assume that any symptoms could indicate COVID-19. 

How will I be screened for COVID-19 before my appointment? 

The day before your appointment, you will receive a phone call from Mary’s Center to confirm and ask you some questions about any possible COVID-19 exposure or symptoms. A screener will also ask you these questions at the door when you arrive for your appointment. 

No matter how you answer the screening questions, Mary’s Center will provide the care that you need, which may include COVID-19 testing, a virtual appointment with your provider, or an in-person appointment. 

What are the screening questions?

  • Have you tested positive for COVID-19 in the last 14 days? 
  • In the last 7 days, have you or anyone you’ve had close contact with had any of the following symptoms? Fever or chills, cough, difficulty breathing or shortness of breath, sore throat, nasal congestion or runny nose, diarrhea or vomiting, body aches, new loss of taste or smell 
  • In the last 14 days, have you traveled outside of the DC metro area (DC, MD, VA)? 
  • Have you had close contact in the last 14 days with someone diagnosed with COVID-19? 
  • Have you had a COVID-19 test and not received the results? 

What if I’m not sure how to answer one of the screening questions? 

There are no right or wrong answers to the screening questions. Answer as honestly as you can, and ask the screener for any clarifications. 

Why is it important to answer the screening questions honestly?  

The screening questions help us keep sick and well patients separated so we can keep you, our health centers, and our staff free from infection. 

If you may have COVID-19 and you withhold that information when you enter one of our health centers, you are potentially infecting every person you come into contact with, from others in the waiting room to our front desk staff, nurses, and doctors. 

Mary’s Center can only serve you when we have a fully intact and healthy staff. If our staff are infected with COVID-19, we cannot continue providing the quality care our community relies on every day.  

If I have an appointment scheduled but now I’m feeling sick, what should I do? 

Please call us at 844-796-2797 so we can provide the care you need as soon as possible. We may schedule you at a different location as we are separating sick and well patients.

If you arrive for your appointment with symptoms you did not disclose, we will have to send you home for the safety of everyone at our health center, and your care will be delayed. 

If I tell the screener that I have COVID-19 symptoms or I have been exposed, what will happen? 

We will take care of you no matter how you answer the screening questions. If you need a COVID-19 test, we can set up an appointment for you at one of our designated clinics at our Adams Morgan site in DC or our Silver Spring site in Maryland. If you have other healthcare needs, we can also schedule a virtual appointment with your provider so you can resolve any other issues safely from your home.
