An engaged community is an empowered community, and Mary’s Center thanks every voter in the DC area who made their voices heard leading up to and on election day.
Now we must continue to raise our voices for those who cannot speak and for those who have been silenced.
We must look past our differences and find those values and aspirations that unite us for the greater good.
We must work together toward affordable and quality healthcare, education, employment, and housing opportunities for all individuals.
We must stand with our neighbors who came to America seeking more for their children – the immigrants who serve as the backbone of our society.
We must address enduring racial and ethnic injustices and close the stark gaps in health outcomes and life expectancy between white people and Black, Indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC) community members in our region.
We must ensure that our elected officials represent the interests of all of us, not a select few of us.
Progress is within reach, and the DC Council is now more diverse than ever before.
Let’s get to work and build the better future we know is possible.
