6 Things to Know about the All of Us Research Program

When it comes to our health, there are so many questions for which we don’t have an answer.  That’s why Mary’s Center is proud to be part of the All of Us Research Program from the National Institutes of Health. All of Us has a simple mission: to help advance research so we can learn more about what makes us sick and what keeps us healthy.

All of Us participants share health information with researchers, who use it to perform thousands of studies on many different conditions. This can lead to better care, and answers, for all of us.

Here are the top 6 things to know about the All of Us Research Program:

  1. Taking part is free, and won’t cost you anything more than a little bit of your time.
  2. All eligible adults in the United States can join. You can be involved in the program as much or as little as you like.
  3. If you join, you will complete surveys, consent to get DNA results, safely share your medical records, and you may be asked to give a blood, urine, or saliva sample.
  4. The program will last for at least 10 years; we hope you stay in it that long. You can choose to stop taking part at any time. If you do, your access to health care or treatment will not be affected.
  5. The program is getting information from different people across the country. This will help researchers learn new things to make discoveries.
  6. We use the latest technology to help keep your data private and safe.

All of Us empowers you to learn about your health and supports researchers to understand health and disease. By studying diverse data from one million (or more) participants like you, researchers may make discoveries that could improve health for all of us in the future. All of our data combined may allow researchers to connect the dots between our lifestyle, genetics, and our environment.
