Mary's Center inaugurates ATCO Jack Egan Conference Room

Mary’s Center welcomed dignitaries from the DC Fire and Emergency Services on Thursday March 24. The guests, including Chief Gregory Dean, came to celebrate US Marine Corps Master Gunnery Sergeant John “Jack” Egan, the father of DC Fire And EMS Battalion Chief Sean Egan.

Our President and CEO, Maria Gomez, and Chief Operating Officer, David Tatro, named the conference room at our Ontario Road location the “ATCO Jack Egan Conference Room”* in his memory, as he inspired his son to support Mary’s Center’s magical Participant Holiday Party, which is held there every year during the December holidays. Each year, the room, formerly known simply as the Kalorama Conference Room, is transformed into a winter wonderland, full of toys sourced by Chief Egan, DC Fire and EMS, the Toys for Tots campaign and other generous donors.

The Egan family has also provided turkeys for our Thanksgiving Turkey Drive and helped to find coats for families in need, together with Battalion Chief Will Bailey of the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department.

We thank the Egan family for following Jack’s example and continuing his legacy of service and commitment to the community. The family has helped to bring happiness to thousands of children who otherwise wouldn't have received any gifts or had a special meal during the holiday season, or who would have had to face the winter without a warm coat.

* ATCO: title given to the senior non-commissioned office of a US Marine Corps Air Wing.
