A Heartfelt THANK YOU

In the wake of last week's tragic explosion and fire in a Silver Spring apartment complex located directly behind our Flower Avenue site, devastated families have sought medical and mental health assistance from Mary's Center. Families that are Mary’s Center participants, and many who are not, have been coming to the clinic seeking our help.

More than a dozen families have come to Mary's Center for help.  Mary's Center was open extended hours on Friday and Saturday to care for them. Many fled their homes without necessities like medications or their wallets or purses. A largely uninsured population, we are: providing nebulizers, medications, Specialty medical care, and behavioral health therapy to help survivors through this traumatic, life-changing ordeal.

We would like to deeply thank everyone who collected and made donations of clothing, diapers, and other items for those whose lives were upended affected by this terrible tragedy.  With a special expression of our appreciation to long-time friends Ashley &  Doug Kollme and their neighbors throughout the Chevy Chase DC and MD communities for immediately responding to the need by collecting dozens upon dozens of bags of clothing and household necessities within days of the fire.  We are humbled by and grateful for our generous neighbors. Thank you for your love and compassion..

Based on our current inventory of donated items, we feel confident we have the inventory to care for the current needs of the families in our care.   If you would still like to help, monetary donations are most needed to offset the costs of additional care, supplies and required workforce.  Please hold off on bringing in clothing and other in-kind donations until we have distributed the already donated items and are able to identify what specific needs not in our inventory.

Thank you again for your generosity. This community never ceases to amaze with your care and call to action. It is because of your friendship and support, we are able to respond quickly when needs in our community arise.

For information how you can help with in-kind donations to our upcoming Holiday food and toy drives, please contact Magali Ceballos at (202) 420-7014 or for more details.
