Mary's Center Pharmacy

Did you know that millions of Americans never fill their prescriptions? According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), 20 to 30 percent of new prescriptions are never filled at the pharmacy.  Additionally, some of those who fill the initial prescription take less medication than they are supposed to  in order to make it last longer and many never get refills, because they simply can’t afford it.

This non-adherence, or failure to take medication as instructed by a provider, leads to poor health outcomes, including the worsening of chronic health conditions like diabetes and high blood pressure, and costs the country billions in avoidable hospitalizations and lost productivity.

Mary’s Center has come up with a solution to increase medication adherence and refill rates and improve patient outcomes in our community.

This summer, Mary’s Center will open a pharmacy at our Petworth site in DC, serving all of our locations in the District and Maryland. As a Community Health Center, Mary’s Center’s pharmacy will offer prescriptions at a greatly discounted rate, a lifeline for our families, many of whom live on extremely limited incomes.

The affordable and convenient in-house pharmacy service will help our participants stick to their medication regimen. It will also allow for close coordination between our providers and pharmacists. As experts in providing care to a diverse community, our staff will also take the time to ensure that participants understand how and when to take their medications.

With your support, our pharmacy will help thousands of participants to take control of their health and improve their well-being.
