Reduce Your Risk of Colorectal Cancer!

Sixty percent of colorectal cancer cases can be avoided. Try these tips from Mary’s Center’s Health Promotion team to help reduce your risk. Let the end of Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month this March be the beginning of a healthy future for you and your family!

·         FIT IN SOME FIBRE! Eat more vegetables, fruits, beans and whole grains (for example oats, quinoa and whole wheat), nuts and seeds (chia seeds and flaxseed). These foods  all help to prevent cancer.

·         GO EASY ON RED AND PROCESSED MEATS! Limit consumption of red meats like beef, lamb and pork to once a week. Avoid processed meats too, since research shows that eating bacon, ham, hot dogs and sausages is directly linked to an increased risk of developing cancer.

·         GET MOVING! Brisk walking, dancing, jumping rope and running all have amazing benefits. Make your goad 60 minutes of physical activity each day. Why not try a Zumba class at Mary’s Center?

One more thing: GET TESTED if you are 50 years or older. Ask your doctor about it today!
