MANAGEMENTMaria S. Gomez, RN, MPH
![]() Maria obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Georgetown
University and a Masters degree in Public Health from the University of California,
Berkeley. She currently serves as a board member to the National Council of
La Raza, the Meyer Foundation and the Nonprofit Roundtable of Greater Washington.
Maria and her husband, Miachel Rexrode, have been married for 18 years and
are proud parents of Amalia, their 11 year old daughter.
Alvaro Simmons, M.ED, MSW, LCSW Alvaro Simmons began at Mary's Center in early 2006 as the Chief Operating
Officer (COO). Alvaro has 18 years experience in the health care field,
in addition to nearly 20 years as an educator in New York public schools and
colleges. In his professional roles at various medical centers and hospitals,
Alvaro has led multiple units working toward the best health care of patients
in obstetrics, drug use treatment, mental health, and adolescent health units.
For the past six years, Alvaro has worked in Federally Qualified Health
Centers (FQHC) while leading the organizations as they comply with all regulations
for FQHCs. His skills have assisted Centers to increase their budgets with
new funding opportunities.
Erik Boas, MBA, MS Erik Boas began at Mary’s Center in September of 2007. He is an accomplished
financial executive with 20 years of experience in corporate finance and general
management. Erik will provide executive leadership, vision, and oversight for
the organization’s overall financial plans and accounting practices.
He will also manage the Finance Department, which is responsible for handling
Mary’s Center’s fiscal affairs including all banking, grants, endowments,
accounting, budgeting, payroll and insurance.
Julie Beecher Julie Beecher is responsible for structuring, and negotiating relationships with community partners including governmental entities, managed care organizations, health private/non-profit industries. She works closely with the senior management team to conduct financial feasibility studies and ensure sustainable growth. Julie joined Mary’s Center in September 2005 and moved to her current position in November 2006. She has over 18 years experience working in public health, management, and
primary health care to underserved populations. She graduated from the Medical
College of Virginia as a family nurse practitioner and completed a second graduate
degree at the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health. In addition to her work
at Mary’s Center, she has volunteered at Habitat for Humanity and Shepherd’s
clinic in Baltimore. She also served as adjunct faculty at Johns Hopkins University,
Georgetown University, and Catholic University.

Joan Yengo As Vice President of Programs at Mary's Center for Maternal and Child Care, Inc. Joan Yengo oversees the social services, mental health, home visitation and education components at Mary's Center for Maternal and Child Care, Inc. She has been with Mary’s Center since 1998. Joan’s commitment to community work is highlighted by over 20 years of
experience working in non-profit community programs, including work in Trenton
New Jersey advocating for women’s right to choose, and HIV/AIDS issues
impacting the city, and with 10 years in DC focusing specifically on prevention
programs. In 2002 Joan was recognized by Prevent Child Abuse America with a
Service Excellence award. She is positive and a team player, working as a team
with her colleagues and the community in support of Mary’s Center’s
programs and their impact on the community. Ms. Yengo graduated summa cum laude
with a Bachelors of Arts in Psychology.

Andreina Pradas Andreina Pradas is responsible for coordinating all aspects of human resources management within Mary's Center including the implementation and communication of personnel policies, coordination of recruiting, hiring, and terminations, benefits, maintenance of personnel records, compliance with all government regulations and other legal requirements. She also coordinates all aspects of employee training, employee relations and other activities necessary for improving the effectiveness and efficiency of Mary's Center human resources. Andreina has more than six years in the Human Resources field holding positions
varying from Training Coordinator to Training Manager for companies such as
The Ritz-Carlton, INCE Turismo and Hyatt Hotels. She has a B.A. in Tourism
Administration and received a Masters in Human Resources Development from The
George Washington University.
Yesenia Sarabia-Peiker With more than 10 years of experience in public relations, communications
and local, state and federal advocacy, Yesenia Sarabia-Peiker is responsible
for developing, executing and supporting communications initiatives to promote
the center internally and externally. She is also responsible for raising awareness
of the health care services provided to the community and for carrying out
day-to-day communications and marketing-related activities. She serves as
communications project manager and/or support for program directors and/or
senior staff and is one of the public spokespersons for the center. Prior
to working for Mary’s Center, Yesenia was the Public Relations Manager
for Government Relations for the American Academy of Family Physicians. She
is also a Masters graduate from Monmouth University with a MA in Public Relations
and Corporate Communications.
BOARD OF DIRECTORSMary’s Center’s Board of Directors provide program and fiscal oversight support and guidance to the Executive and Development Directors in all activities. Board members were selected for their experience in the areas of health, health planning, law, program and personnel management and knowledge of the target community and community resources.
