Golf Classic: A Hole-In-One

On Tuesday, May 17, 2016 over 140 golfers participated in the 5th Annual Mary’s Center Golf Classic: Golf to Give Care at Lake Presidential in Upper Marlboro, Maryland.  Despite a rainy start, the golfers’ drive to make a difference in the Mary’s Center community provided a full circle of gratitude.
After registration, golfers kicked off their day by placing bids on silent auction items while indulging in cigars and bloody marys.  While mingling, many participated in the Putting Contest and purchased golf accessories and sporting goods at the NIKE store.
Following a shot gun start, the golfers spread throughout the course and graciously competed for a cause.  The silent auction remained open throughout the day and concluded as a huge success—prizes included trips as near as local wineries and as far as Bali, dozens of autographed sports memorabilia, and more.
Overall, it was a fun-filled day that enabled golfers of all backgrounds to unite for a common goal of supporting Mary’s Center—raising nearly $162,000 to enrich Mary’s Center programs. The day closed with bourbon tasting, a visit from Redskins Cheerleaders and a celebration of appreciation at the closing and awards ceremony.  Everyone’s participation helped ensure that Mary’s Center programs remain resilient and continue to improve the lives of our community’s most vulnerable populations.
Simply stated, Mary’s Center impacts the lives of others on a daily basis. Thanks to the support that our golfers have provided, we can continue our mission of providing the highest quality of care to everyone who walks through our doors, regardless of ability to pay.  A special appreciation to our title sponsor, Meridian Imaging Solutions, and all other champions who contributed to make this year’s Mary’s Center Golf Classic a success.

A special thanks to our Golf Committee Co-Chairs, Greg Conroy and Carl Ressa and the following committee members: Andy Apgar, Ritu Kaur-Cooper, Peter Lanfranchi, Bob Waechter, Tim Kerin, Tom McKernan, Amit Mehta, Andrew Renart, Brandon Curry, Katherine Michaelenko, Alan Wahlstrom and David Tatro
