There is strength in numbers, and Mary's Center is part of several coalitions working to improve health, education and economic outcomes for low-income individuals and families. The DC Fair Bridge Coalition, DC Language Access Coalition, DC Healthy Communities Collaborative, the Ryan White Planning Council and First Lady Michelle Obama's Let's Move campaign are just a few of the initiatives we participate in.
We also participate in rallies, marches, vigils and other community events to raise awareness about issues affecting our community.

Mary's Center helps to inform policymakers about community needs and about the impact of their decisions on underserved communities.
Mary's Center created a legislative toolkit focused on immigrant health care issues. The kit is designed to provide federal, state, and local legislators with a variety of immigrant health care facts and figures as well as raise awareness about the impact of health policies on immigrant families. The toolkit also highlights model legislation that addresses access to community-based health services and the unique health care needs of immigrants. To view our Legislative Toolkit, click here.
Our leaders, staff, and participants are often called upon to provide expert testimony at public health hearings, District of Columbia City Council meetings, and at other high-profile seminars.
Our President and CEO, Maria Gomez, and other staff members are frequently invited to give expert testimony on public health issues. Thanks to her tireless work on behalf of underserved communities, Ms. Gomez has been invited to join the last three transition teams for the District of Columbia Mayor's office as health advisor for current Washington DC Mayor Muriel Bowser and former Mayors Vincent Gray and Adrian Fenty.
