In 2008, Mary’s Center opened our Montgomery County health center at 8709 Flower Avenue in Silver Spring, MD. This site, in a conveniently located on-street shopping center with nearby public transportation, quickly became popular. The ongoing popularity and demand for our services has led to a situation whereby this 3,420 sq. ft. location is past capacity.
In 2014, the Flower Avenue clinic served 5,036 men, women and children — an 11% increase from the year prior. Of those individuals, 2,577 (51%) of them were uninsured. Mary’s Center turns no one away based on their inability to pay. The County’s need for services aimed at the uninsured and underinsured populations are great. Data collected by the federal Health Resources and Services Administration shows 97,209 Montgomery County residents who are classified as low-income and who are not currently served by Community Health Centers.
In light of this growing need, Mary’s Center is moving forward with a plan to expand our capacity and bring new services to Montgomery County in 2017. With a funding commitment from the State of Maryland, Mary’s Center will relocate to a new location, and by doing so, will bring Mary’s Center’s full suite of services, many of which are not offered in our current space, to nearly three times as many Montgomery County residents —
· Health Care: Adult Medicine; Pediatrics; Prenatal; Health Promotion; Dental Health; Mental Health.
· Social Services: Care Coordination; Family Support Services; Entitlement Program Enrollment Assistance; and Early Intervention services.
Preliminary estimates for the new site in its first full year of operation show greatly expanded reach:
· 9,000 Medical Visits (Including a minimum of 3,000 OB visits)
· 10,025 Dental Visits
· 3,375 Mental Health Visits
In 2017, Mary’s Center will relocate to a new site that will more than triple our existing square footage and create a comprehensive, full-service health center. In addition to the quality medical, Mary’s Center will offer dental services for the first time in Montgomery County and accommodate significant expansion in behavioral health integration.
The new location will be identified by the first half of 2017 after completing a thorough site analysis. The optimal location will take into consideration key factors that include: proximity to public transportation, the number of uninsured/underinsured, the Medicaid and Medicare populations, and the gaps in health and social services that exist in Montgomery County.
For 28 years, Mary’s Center’s holistic approach to care has helped thousands of families and individuals find the road to a better future. With your confidence and in partnership with our community, we can bring these new and expanded services and realize the Promise of Tomorrow. With your help, we can continue building better futures in our community. Right here. Right now.
